Google PlayFrequently asked questions
Is Tilawi really completely free?
Yes. Every feature is free for everyone: the Mushaf and recitations, Practice and Voice search, revision, prayer times, mosques and lectures. There are no paid tiers and nothing to unlock.
Do you collect my data?
No. Tilawi has no account and no server for your data. Your recitation is recognised on your device and never uploaded, and your progress lives only on your phone.
Does it work offline?
Mostly, yes. Reading, Practice, Voice search, prayer times and the recitations you downloaded work offline. Lectures and the mosque list need the internet to download them; after that they work offline too. A mosque's own prayer times are read online.
Do I need an account?
No. Just download the app and start — there is nothing to sign up for.
How accurate is voice search?
In a test with 600 studio recitations from EveryAyah (3 reciters), 599 verses were identified correctly, 1 returned no match and none were wrong. It has also been tested with live recitation on phones. It isn't perfect; when unsure, Tilawi shows no match rather than a wrong verse.
Is Tilawi open source?
The on-device speech recognition is: three packages on GitHub (MIT license) and the speech model on Hugging Face (CC BY 4.0). You'll find the links in the Open source section on the home page.
Where are prayer times from?
They are calculated on your phone for your place (Fajr and Isha at 14.6°). A mosque's own times show in Places when the mosque publishes them.
